Join us in uplifting Tamils through education and culture in New York.

The Muthamizh Munnettra Mandram's mission is to promote Tamil culture and unity among the Tamil community in New York by aiming to improve the Tamil community within New York State, as well as in the Northern parts of Sri Lanka, through building foundations that focus on improvements and availability in academics, service, and mentorship.

Founded in 2015, Muthamizh Munnettra Mandram has been serving our communities for over 11 years. Our organization was established to nurture a community for the Tamils in the New York area.

Muthamizh Munnettra Mandram exists to preserve, promote, and pass on Tamil language, culture, and values by bridging generations and passing the wisdom and cultural intellect of elders to the youth. Through education, cultural programs, and community engagement, we strengthen identity, unity, and pride within our community.

Our team is made up of dedicated volunteers, cultural advocates, and community leaders who share a passion for service and Tamil heritage. Together, we work collaboratively to plan programs, support members, and guide the Mandram’s mission with integrity and commitment.

We want to promote the Tamil language, literature, and arts, as well as encourage cultural awareness among youth and families. Furthermore we want to support community development and unity. Lastly we want to create inclusive platforms for learning and cultural expression for our future generations.

This program is designed to help you connect with mentors from the Tamil community who can provide personalized career and academic guidance tailored to their fields. Whether you're exploring different professions, applying to school, or navigating the early stages of your career, our mentors are here to share their experiences, offer support, and help you grow with confidence. More importantly, to bring the Tamil community of New York together.
The program was founded in August 2025 by Dr. Bairavi Maheswaran, D.O, who was inspired by her own academic journey in medicine. She wanted to help others gain the support and resources she was unable to access as a first-generation physician. With the opening of the program, we have over 30+ dedicated mentors from various states across the United States and have catered to mentees from the five boroughs majority from Staten Island and Queens, while also having mentees from New York State and Maryland.
Past Events
Virtual Career Fair
The Virtual Career Fair launched the vision of connecting Tamil professionals from New York, New Jersey, and Washington DC with students through mentorship and guidance, creating a global platform for learning. Professionals from diverse industries shared their career journeys, educational pathways, and advice on navigating competitive fields. This initiative allowed students to gain insight and ask questions directly from mentors, laying the foundation for a larger movement that would eventually grow within the Tamil community.
Parents Panel
The Parents Panel highlighted the important role families play in shaping the educational journeys of young people in the Tamil community in New York. Parents shared their perspectives on supporting their children’s ambitions while balancing cultural values, academic expectations, and the realities of growing up in a diverse city. The discussion created a meaningful dialogue between generations, emphasizing encouragement, resilience, and the importance of allowing students to explore their passions.
First In-Person Tamil Career Fair – New York
The first in-person Tamil Career Fair in New York marked a historic milestone for MMM as we hosted one of the first events of its kind for the Tamil community. Students, professionals, and families gathered in one space to explore career paths through mentorship, conversation, and interactive activities. Career tables representing medicine, engineering, law, business, education, technology, and the arts allowed students to directly engage with professionals, while activities such as resume editing, interview preparation, and hands-on demonstrations made the experience practical and inspiring. The event celebrated not only career exploration but also the strength of the Tamil community in New York coming together to support the next generation.
